Okay, so I know it's hard to internet diagnose but this is perplexing me and I need some feedback. I have a 1997 Thunderbird LX w/3.8 v6 and 4r70W as a daily driver. Whenever I have the a/c on and I'm slowing down/at a stop/in gear the transmission makes a whirring sound, as soon as I turn the a/c off it stops. If I have the car in park/neutral it doesn't do this.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think there is a switch that is suppose to step up your idle when the A/C is on. Maybe that's it.

So you think I just need to replace that switch?
Sorry I am use to Mustang/Camaro/Trans-Am which I usually pull the a/c off of first thing but now I have a family and this is the family car so wife says it stays lol. All new to me.

Does the car idle lower than its suppose to? I'm thinking your problem is engine load related since the A/C adds addtional load to the engine when at idle. Did you check for vacuum leaks? Cracked/brittle hoses?

All vaccuum lines are new, it idles around 500 - 600rpm when in gear. Could it be the IAC? [ June 17, 2010, 12:06 AM: Message edited by: MustangNate ]
