Has anybody run a promtion t-5 with 4.10 gears?
the transmission has a 2.95 first and .59 5th. i plan on running a 275/40/17 inch tire. Do you guys thik it will be better to run a a 4.10 gear are a 3.73 gear with this transmission? Anyone running a promotion t-5 can give some information on what they a running. I basically have the the t-5Z transmission that has been beefed up a little bit.

the T5 Zspec has the same 1st gear ratio as that promotion.

I think that the 4.10 would be a little too much for your car (fox mustang rite?)especially for a street car that will see wet weather and highway.

i would stick with your 3.73 gears

im running a Astro T5 (2.95 1st) i went with 3.55, im glad I did. [patriot]

Yeah it's a fox it is not my everyday driver so I won't see rain. The .59 5th won't help on the freeway?

I'd love a .59 OD on the freeway. You don't race anyone in 5th gear anyway. That's the trans I'm going to eventually put in mine.

I JUST READ THIS FROM ANOTHER SIT
"Just to throw some fuel on the fire.

I have run stock 2.73's, 3.55's, 3.73's, and 4.10's over my cars 15 1/2 years of life...

The 3.55's for the basically stock engine/mild bolt ons are perfect.
The 3.73's for a H/C/I with Bolt-ons and a stock t-5 is pretty good.

My PERSONAL favorite combination was my old gt-40 combo with iron heads, ecam etc...a Z-Code t-5 and 4.10's. For the street, the 2.95 first gear was actually less first gear than the stock 3.35 box and 3.73's. The .62 overdrive with 4.10's was @= to the 3.73 with the stock .68 overdrive. So what I got was less first gear, equal 5th, but 2nd, 3rd and 4th were much stronger. If I ever go back to motor or if I am forunate enough to build another coupe one day, I will replicate that combo. It was a hoot to drive on the street and still would cut low 1.6's on slicks at the track..."

Might help with my desicion.

With 3.73's the fifth gear sucks balls. To pass anyone you have to downshift. I don't like it at all. Plus I didn't really save much gas mileage bc I drive city majority of the time.

So consider whether you drive city or highway more. If its a weekend car keep the stock 5th. It's funner on the highway with power when you need it.

As for the first gear. You will be able to get out the whole a lot easier. As dude you quoted said, a whole lot less 1st gear.

Good luck. If I could do it again I would just have kept the stock fifth.

Side note, Promotion always went above and beyond what they needed to in order to help me. Always very helpful and knowledgeable. I have had the transmission for sometime now and it works flawlessly.

I won't comment on my experience with d&d.... [Mad] [Roll Eyes]

I hear you. What happens if you went to 4.10 gears? Would that make 5th gear a little better? Also what mods do you have on your car. This gear ratio decision is killing me.

4.10 would definitely help your fifth out but it also affects your other gears also. I think 4.10's is a bit much for a bolt on fox.

The problem with gears is its all about personal preference. I'm very happy with the 3.73's. If I did go with a lower gear it would be a 3.90 or 3.93 MAX!

Yeah I'm running a 331 stroker with TWS heads and all the goods. Not to wild, but making 311 to the wheels maybe a litle higher the clutch was done when it was dynoed. I plan on staying N/A.

I hear you on the 3.90s. I had them and then sold them. I don't like that there is no speedo for them.
