Im debating on what heads to run on my 11:1 349 for my daily driver. Ive built my fair share of good running motors but Ive never had any experience with procomp. Anyone here have any? drew? Sean? Any respectible builders know anything about them besides the fact theyre cheap! What about bare casting with good parts? Thanks. Cooter [patriot]

They are cheap chinese junk.
The seats fall out.
The seats are not concentric with the guides.
The valves cost 0.75 each.

had a customer buy a set.

The decks are thick believe it or not.

Took them to Daves Machine to get fixed.

They come with junk parts and the seats are non concentric so replace everything but the ports responded well after lightly touching the bowls they flow 299 on the intake and 232 on the exhaust at 550 lift.

I have the entire flowsheet and it cost $980 to have that done.

They are now nice heads and even DAVES was impressed with the deck thickness. They actually weigh more than a typical aluminum head, bare.

there's a reason why they are soo cheap... just like cheap fiberglass hoods.
Sure you save on the initial purchase but in the end you put more money/time/work
into them then you would have if you just forked out the cash at the beginning for reputable parts

You should buy a set of e-streets. There a pretty nice head and a very fair price. Edelbrock's not going to let you down. Although, I think you would be dissapointed on your combo. You should just wait and buy some TW heads or some afr's.

From what i understand theyre pretty similar to victor jr's, so if I bought a bare set of the 210 cc procomps and had the seats replaced with all new valves and springs of my choice they should be pretty good set of heads then for under a $1000 bucks still right?

With the economy the way it is now you can find deals on good used parts that in the end would save you money. Even buying bare Procomp castings and having them built its going to cost you what a decent set of heads would run. I've read horror stories on these things with stuff not lining up, its not one of those things you can just cast and call it a day, that's why they cost so much.

why would you want to spend that type of money when you could by a nice set of AFRs for the same price or less(after machine work) I think the machine work to fix them is more then the head [Eek!] 1500.00 will get you a brand new set of Vic Jrs and you just bolt them on and are done.

no you Idiot. The original poster was debating what to buy.... I thought you gave a great example of why you would NOT want to purchase those heads in the first place. He didnt say he had them already. Stop being a ass for a second and answer honestly if you would be happy buying a new set of heads and then paying 980.00 to get them fixed correctly? I sure as hell would not.
