I find it easier for dirt and grime to stick to it, but thats just my 2 cents. Ive done quite a few clutches and never have I put grease on anything that is clutch related. If you are trying to get rid of a stiff clutch as well, then get a new clutch cable and if your retainer sleeve is scarred then buy a new one of those as well.
