(Update on progress is on the bottom post 1/8/10)
-the story- Last night my best friend was in town(rare)so We took my blown 306ci/Tremec/spec clutch(6 puck)/3:55 rear, out for a joy ride. Long story short I decided to attempt a burn out in 2nd gear and failed to do so nearly bogging out the engine. my second attempt worked sucessfully resulting with a sweet ass J.force style burn out, but after shifting into 3rd gear I couldn't pull it out of gear Once I pulled over to a stalling halt (car off) I popped out of gear.
When the cars off I can shift gears as normal. When the car is running I can't Get it in gear.
Clutch pedal effort feels the same (normal) I even tried adjusting the clutch cable firewall adjustment all the way in and out...no luck
Luckly I was straight down the street about a mile from my house with minimal stop lights.
My high torque starter was able to propell my car in first gear back home. I limped it home without using the clutch...had to dodge a cop to
??? So do you think my clutch has welded itself to my flywheel or glazed itself nasty? note: we did'nt smell burnt clutch. ??? I have 1-3/4" longtube headers... clutch is gone. i had that problem. and when i took the tranny out i had clutch material falling out in peices.

maybe a bent/broken shift fork. its only a guess you gotta take it down and have a look.
you should be able to take the trans down without removing the headers.

i had the same problem with the car not goin into gear with the car on, and goin in when its off. put in a new clutch problem fixed. i also fried it trying to have fun. but i wasnt as lucky as you all i burned was clutch no rubber lol. [ December 30, 2009, 09:03 PM: Message edited by: svt_etr ]

I have long tube headers. you think it'll clear the bellhousing through okay? I adjusted the firewall cable adjustment all the way out and still had the no gear while running problem.so I dont think the clutch fork is bent...and it looks okay. I'm gonna drop the tranny probably on wednesday but I wanna make sure it'll clear the headers first>

mine old mach did the same thing, ended up being a broken clutch disc spring that was wedged between the pressure plate and the clutch keeping the clutch engaged no matter what ya do.

Swap out that clutch and go from there. I think the bell housing will clear the long tubes, just slide the tranny further back for more clearance in the front...If you dont think it will clear, take one side off (which ever ones easiest) to be on the safe side.

i had the same problem with my car. it would go into gear when car is off but not when its on. when i took the clutch out it was all bent and cracked. you need a new clutch to fix the problem.

I was pulling out some of the tranny bolts and notice the clutch cable had some pretty badly melted areas near the header. I dont think that would cause the problem im having all of a sudden . What do you think? Im not sure if i should continue to pull the trans or stop and order a new cable to see if theres any change. its the plastic protecting part that melted. about 5 inches of cable is showing cause of it. again... we never smelt burnt clutch

I was able to pull off trans & clutch assembly.
The flywheel looks okay, but the clutch disk was mircowelded(bonded)itself to the pressure plate. The clutch is stuck to the Pressure plate. Its a stage 2 or 3 spec clutch...the 6 puck one that failed.
