converted to the ford side and this car wont stop giving me problems now. hopefully you guys can help me.

alittle about the car. when i first got it ran strong. but had a vacuum leak so it would run idle to high sometimes. my clutch ended up going out. so car sat for a few weeks. put a king cobra clutch in it. then my alternator went out. fixed it. at the same time my tension pulley gave out. so i fixed that to.

when i was fixing the tensioner i found the vacuum leak that was from the back of the intake that led to this little thing on the driver side some have rubber caps, and some are running somewhere. the one that was ripped runs to a nipple connection that has an "S" on top of it.

so with all that car started to run decent. clutch still needs adjustment but i was able to drive it.

the car has an msd 6a box. when i disconnect it the car will not idle or it will but bairly stay on like at 400rpms. i connect it back with the connections that the previous owner has. and it will idle fine and i can rev it without it shutting off.

now heres the part thats driving me crazy. car is idleing now and running when i try to leave put it in first and give it gas. the car bogs like crazy and will bairly move. start backfiring and if i pump the gas ill get some rpms and it will move but then rapidly start bogging again and backfiring. i changed the fuel filter today. and problem persist. what can it be? fouled plugs? bad cap n rotor?

please help, im lost on this mustang.

Sorry about all the problems, been there, and done that. These these 5.0's age, they are more likely to have been beaten on and also, have been modified by more hacks.

Start with the basics, air, spark and fuel. Check fuel pressure, check your timing. Check the basic tune up parts. Sounds like you've gotten started on the vacuum leaks as well. Good luck.

yea i think ima pull all the plugs and see if they are fouled. ima try to get the fpg. shouldnt it be getting enough fuel if i can rev it as high as i want when im in neutral? i only encounter the problem now wen i try to drive it.

how do i check the timing? could it have maybe moved if i took off the cap n rotor to try n clean it? i didnt clean it with alot of pressure, and used a rag. could it be maybe that i cleaned it to much that caused damage without me knowing?

car is an 87 so dont have mass air. i changed the spark plugs now. and same problem.

how do i check the coil and the tfs module? and probably a noob question. whats a tfs module? im used to having a coil for ever spark plug, and never a problem such as this one. haha/

the salt n pepper plugs i took them off and cleaned them. they had this nasty beige looking cream in there. maybe that electric jelly grease? idk. but i cleaned it. and im still having this stupid problem. o and i found on google what the tfi module was. how do i kno if thats bad?

Check your ground from the chassis to the engine. If you missed a ground wire that was bolted down on a bell housing bolt it could run like ass.

when i took off the tranny i didnt unbolt the bellhousing from the tranny. unbolted the whole tranny from the block and brought it down. when i took off the six bolts i didnt notice any ground strap. wait let me say that again. there is suppose to be six bolts. but my car has five lol. it seems there should be a middle bolt on the driver side of the bell housing. but there are only two on the driver side, and three on the passenger side. when i look at the motor from the top side i noticed a ground strap goin to the chassis but i didnt pay attention to wear it lead to. its one of those copper collor flat ones. i found the tfi thing. unplugd it and blew on it then put it back. but that didnt do shit, and didnt expect it to. but tried anyway haha.

could i have fucked the cap and rotor from trying to scrap off the crusty stuff inside?

if the timing is off. how did that happen? and how do i fix it on these cars.? if the timing was off wouldnt it not even run at all? i can get it to idle. but when cold it strugles and have to play with it for alil bit.

o and to add to the post above. for some reason my car sounds like it has a cam when its idling. i doubt it. but it idles way different then other 5.0s that i have heard. mayb its just misfiring like crazy. but before i had this problem i had that idle and when i rev it i didnt get any hesitation or anything. now i do. but idle is still the same (choppy)
also the guy i got it from said that the guy he got it from put roller rockers in it. idk how true that is i have to pull the valve covers soon anyway since their leaking.

Do this, you can try the ground thing with a pair of jumper cables. Each end has two clamps, hook both clamps on one end to good ground points on the engine. Connect one of the other clamps to the neg side of the battery and the final one connect to a good ground in the engine bay. You want to make a solid, clean ground between the engine, neg terminal on the battery and chassis of the car. I've seen cars either run like shit or not run at all from a bad ground. I figure this is easy and would eliminate that as a problem quickly.

I was going to say mass-air as well, but you don't have one.
I had a similar issue before when I swapped in new spark plug wires; I had a couple of them crossed. Remove all of them and put them back on, to make sure.
As mentioned, could also be your timing is off (if you removed the distributor).

Good luck!

haha thats what i have been doing. they seem fine. and i dont understand how they coulda got messed up if i didnt touch any of them?

earlier in the thread i said that it revved fine in neutral, but yesterday when i was messin with it. it jus felt like it was choking itself. like giving to much fuel and not enough spark. or idk. but it misses when i rev it. and the more i put the pedal down the more it seems like its not doing anything. for example i can have the pedal to the floor and the rpms sit at like 600. and if i play with it then yes rpms will go up like they should. (missfiring though)
