do you have a smog? if not then no need to spend all the money to switch over.. get a good intake and a 600cfm carb..

(These are your choices if you want to keep it smog legal)...
EFI conversion is a lot of work but it can be done. For smog you'll have to get EVERYTHING from any 5.0 newer than '85. Get a donor car, write down the vin# and make sure you use EVERYTHING the car came with that's smog related. Then once it's all together you have to present it all to the Smog Referee and get an engine-change certificate.
For quick and easy smog-legal carbureted horsepower at the rear, look into smog legal aftermarket carburetors (Holley makes a few, or you can trick-out your existing one if it originally came with a holley 4barrel by adding different jets, squirters, accelerator pump, ad a lighter secondary spring)
Get some smog-legal headers and smog legal high-flow cats also.
If you're not worried about smog get yourself a performer RPM intake, holley 580 Street Avenger carb, give it a tune-up, install some full-length headers and get rid of the cats. The car will shit and git!
Also see if you can get 3.73 gears for the back.
Good luck!
