So I get all my parts from the machine shop to do my shortblock and he sells me a high pressure pump and says that high pressure pump is the only way to go in a performance app. What are your opinions on this?

only if you have a high capacity oil pan, otherwise it will just suck a stock 5qt pan dry.

High pressure...or high volume?
FYI, either will not fit in a stock 95 oil pan with clearancing it. You'll find out the hard way when you bolt the pan on. (housing is thicker than stock...)

He wants me to run the high pressure pump, and I will be running a aftermarket pan also.

I see no need for it. If built correctly, and all is within tolerances, it's a overkill. Oil pressure is exactly that...pressure...so to have more of it is un-necessary. Just my opinion.

Ya I think I will swap him for a standard, he does killer work and builds bad a** motors! I know everyone recomends standard pumps and then he says I need to run a high pressure? Didn't add up so I thought I would ask around a be safe. I would hate to have issues after it was in the car.

I always use standard volume and standard pressure steel pumps.

ya thats what i always see people using, i call and see if he would order me a standard pump and he convinces me to run the high pressire pump. guess i will see what happens, he hasnt failed me yet i guess.

It's not going to hurt anything, just sucks up a lil HP, that's all. If you're going that route, be sure to keep the oil at a 10w30 or less, it will keep the oil aeration and heat to a minimum.

my buddy tell me to see if he will swap me, so i call and he pulls the "well how many motors have you and your buddy built?" and i say a couple, he says "well i have had my shop for more than 30 years and have built more than a couple motors" and i say okay don i will try it. and he says "trust me brandon" lol he belittled me! haha

i differ on the oil pan. i like to use the aftermarket oil pans on any performance motor or when any performance driving is going to happen. they hold more oil and hold the oil where it is supposed to stay.a good oil pan needs to be on any thing performance orintated.stock oil pans are for stock appications for stock oil control.driving faster, stopping faster, turning faster,all demand better oil control and are not for anything stock. if any of this driving is what u plan to do, u need a better oil pan. if your not worried about keeping your oil centerd around your oil pump when your hotrodding around,then you should start.and that not just my thoughts, thats a security your motor doesnt blow up.

Been 11s all day with stock pan and standard volume pump.
Seen 10.20 stock bottom end motors with standard volume pumps and stock oil pans.
Seen 9.80 car all day with stock bottom end and standard pump, stock oil pan.
Lose a little hp with a high volume pump but that is the only down side so if he insists then go with it and maybe use a bigger pan.
Either way it is not a necessity and I have only built about 30 small block fords.

to turbo50, he wants me to run a high pressure not a high volume pump. reason, i have no clue? he swears by it so if it has problems i will take it to him! lol

Hey they run great with or without em so do whatever he wants to keep him happy.
Do yourself and me a favor and use an ARP oil pump drive shaft.
