just playing with the idea of putting a 5.0 motor in my 01 cobra because of the of the cost of the modular motors. Iam very indecisive and doubt ill do it probly sell the car first but was just wondering if anyone has ever seen this and what it entails. thanks

almoat everyguy at the aei series an american iron eagle sreies does this swap just for dependablity and the power ,and they own brand new cars and still do this swap ,its not like those guys dont have the money for whatever they wanna do, but this is road racing stuff 6000 rpm and above, minimum 1/2 hour or more straite.i love a good ole push rod even tho tecknically the mod makes more sence.but these guys put it to the test they say they just wont hold together.

The AI and AIX series guys run pushrod motors for their simplicity, and also because there are a lot more builders that are familiar with pushrod engine programs than that of a mod motors. But we are talking about 20k pushrod motors here, not budget builds.
His thread started with him wanting a cheaper alternative. That would be to sell the car, or get a drop in mod motor.

You would be working backwards in my opinion.
Too much hassle and then what? A stock block 302 that is lucky to handle 500hp??
F that bro.

Their are sooooo many things you would have to change I don't really think it would be worth it, it's not just putting in the 302 and go, its a LOT more involved then that... [ July 12, 2009, 01:49 PM: Message edited by: 06Xrunner ]

dude just get a stock rebuild, you are gonna spend 3x the money trying to downgrade to a pushrod motor. Just invest a little money and rebuild the motor, you will get more money for a running car than you will get for a "blown motor" car..... its like you investing 100 dollars to make 500 dollars

the motor is a brand new long block 4v like i said i was just toying with the idea because everything is so exspensive for 4v compared to a fox which is what iam looking at getting into again i know modulars have big potential but 1300 just for cams thats a big diff. between a f cam in a 5.0

Agreed.
The mod motor will be a more expensive build for your application, but well worth the investment in the long run and a hell of a lot easier in the short run. If I had a Fox, I'd build a mod. If I rebuild my 66, I'll build a mod. If the 4.6 blew in my 08 SGT, I'd build a mod. Maybe I'm biased, but the 3V and 4V are the hottest engines Ford has ever built, IMO.
Good luck with whichever route you take.

Everyones points make sense but on the other end of the spectrum it would be different and cool to see, it may however not be the cheap alternative but none the less a cool idea.
