My buddy is startin a project, but he's not a gear head and doesn't take any of my suggestions serious. So wut I'm askin is what is the best short block with internals for the $1000-$2000.
My first thought was a D.S.S. block or a FRPP. Lmk what you guys think or suggest.
302 or 306 doesn't matter

I would stay away from a DSS block... Seen too many horror stories about their customer support & product support. Let alone getting hold of customer support.
Have you considered getting a block refresher kit - rings & bearings, that should keep him in the price range and leave room for something else like heads, cam or intake?

Doesn't plan on going over 300hp? Then why not just build a stock motor?

If he's omly looking in that hp ball park he might as well just freshen up the factory short block and slp on some heads and cam with a pp intake and call it a day.

yeah i kno dat, but my buddy aint hearin wut im tryin to preach, he wants an after market block and take it 300 hp plus. im runin a frpp block, ported stock heads, e cam, 24lb injector, edelbrock upper and lower ported, and i scare him when i drive. but claims he wants a professional to build him a motor, he doesnt believe in do it your self even though me and a buddy built mine wit minor hick ups. any way i shouldnt even try to be helpin his fat ass wit this project since its in one ear and out the other.
p.s. i barely got him not to spend hella money on a salved title 91 convert. convinced him to get a 4 bager coupe and do a conversion.

If your going to spend that amount of dough why not call summit racing or ford and buy the frpp 347 and call it a day.
