I just bought 2 quarts of paint that needs to be reduced 1 to 1. So thats like a gallon of paint. Im not doing jams cus Im painting it the same color. Did I buy too much?

Although the guy at San Leandro Color told me that in a few months everyone is switching over to water base paint. So he said its okay to buy extra paint. Incase I need touch ups later on down the road. What do you guys think?

Its not a big car I think 1 gal should work. Is this a single stage or do you have clear? How many top coats you planing on? That stuff all figures in

I personally think you should have bought 3 quarts. Nothing sucks worse than to run out of paint in a middle of a job. Plus, like you said, actually in Oct they are mandated to sell only waterbased paints. So I'd get a little extra, just incase you decide to change ground effects or a new hood, or even a repair work. I bought a gallon just a week ago because of the up-coming switch.
I have a bunch of 94-03 Ford colors in pint cans of Dupont Chromabase that I'm selling for $20-40.
Sorry for the plug. Just thinking since we're talking paint.

Already got a cowl hood and defenatly wont be putting any ground effects on it. But maybe I should go get more paint incase the cowl hood flys open while driving, AGAIN... LOL Oh, and I think Im going with 4 coats of clear.

gallon worked for my GT vert it was dupoint chrombase. Dupoint seems easier to color match later i had to redo my front end cus i taped it with my truck (dont ask) but it matched very good.

i painted a 70 cutlass with 1 gallon of paint not counting reducers and hardners. That was jambs and everything. I still had a little left over too. cutlass are huge compare to a mustang.

2 coats of base and 2 coats of clear is the minimum. a 3rd coat will it allows you to cut and buff to a much smoother finish.

Not sure if anyone does this, but I usually do a light wet sand between the last 2 coats of clear.
It helps for me to make sure the last coat is on good and even. For me it's hard to see how much coverage I'm getting when painting clear on glossy clear. [ May 11, 2009, 12:28 AM: Message edited by: RRRCobraSC281 ]

Wait, so you wet sand the clear in between coats? Thats technicaly not possible, I'm confused, when do you wet sand?
