Do any of you have your a/c in your car blowing ICE COLD? If so what does your system consist of? New compressor? 94-95 gt condenser? r12? or converted to r134? Also, is it ice cold while sitting in traffic or more so only while on the freeway? I want to do the A/C in my notch, and am in the process of doing research so I'm wondering what everyone here has done about their a/c set ups. I did the a/c in my saleen with pretty much junk yard parts and it turned out okay, the problem I had was it didn't work very well in traffic, and made it overheat- another problem on it's own. I have a little bit of r12 in storage so if that means I'll get an extra 5 degrees from using it, I'm not going to convert

A/C's tend to make a car run a little hotter, sometimes overheating the motor, especially on hot days or sitting in traffic. On the 87 I used to own I used this stuff called freeze12 to recharge it. It never was ICE cold but it kept me from sweatin bullets during the day. Wish I still had it, it's getting hot and I took my ac out of the one I own now.

I had my whole system replaced with new parts. Nothing fancy All original and new stock Fox A/C parts using R-12. Cost me about $700 new for everything. No reason to use junkyard parts. And it is ICE frickin cold 42 degrees at the vents. I never have problems with it overheating in traffic or buzzing around town. I think the main thing is though that your other parts of your match like my aluminum radiator and electric fans.

you can probably hook up everything your self, compressor, lines and accumulator. but after that I would take it to a shop that does AC because they have the equipment for it. You want all the moister out of the system for it to blow ice cold. they should have a machines that puts the whole system under a vacuum to get all the water out and to make sure there are no leaks.

Convert it to 134 it runs at a higher pressure keeping you colder and its a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to find, also last longer.

I guess the only reason I chose to use junkyard parts is the $700. It was refreshing to here you write that you didn't use nothing fancy buuuut, 42 degrees just doesn't seem cold enough. I say that because my boys service truck gets to 19* at the vents and that one is r134 but it's also a 2005 for the record. If i could get that out of a fox then we'd be talking.
I'm not too worried about the presure checking, leak precaution and charging, It's the correct part selection that worries me. My 94 Cobra blows 40 degrees at the vents on R-134 and believe me on a 100 degree day that feels damn good. Most A/C systems wont blow colder than freezing, because at that temp the evaporator ices up and A/C stops working all together. Biggest addition for the A/C system on a foxbody is an aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan. As far as parts go, the R134 conversion kit is only about $50. The only thing you have to change is the accumulator, but you must flush the system out entirely, R-12 & R-134 do not mix well, bad things happen. The cost of the accumulator and retro kit is offset by the lower cost of the R-134 freon.

166 Merlot....I have the original AC parts out of that notch if you want them. $30...not sure if its working though, but I was told it was when I bought the car.
