Topic: TFS valve springs HELP!

I bought some TFS valve springs for my GT40 heads and thought this was going to be a simple swap,(lower washer, spring, upper washer and both keepers). But the more I read, the more confused I have become!
Anyone who has done it, give a detailed how to install the TFS springs?? The GT40 heads are stock, removed and I already removed one of the stock springs.

You need a valve height dial indicator, otherwise you're just guessing. The shims dictate the spring pre-load, which gives you your seat pressure. You don't want to mess around with this, as you WILL have valve float if installed incorrectly.

That is what the rod is for in the pic. It is the correct valve spring installed heigth. You use it as a gauge when shimming your springs. On one of the trick flow kits I have installed there was different retainers for the intake and the exhaust valves. If yours is like that try not to mix them up. Yep, & the .050" off-set locks are a different color & used on either the exhaust or intake to make both intake & exhaust springs the same height. (can't remember which they're used on....intake or exhaust.)

read my post the rod INCLUDED in the kit is the gauge for the correct valve spring installed heigth of his Kit.
Now if there was no rod then yes get the tool for setting installed heigth. I prefer the ones summit racing sells. The micrometer that sits around the valve between the shim and the retainer.

Thanks guys.. and good because I was't able to find a height dial indicator. What the hell are the silver washers for and which direction do the springs go.. with the inner spring facing up or down?

the silver washers are for setting the installed heigth by putting them under the springs. So you can get the correct spring installed heigth. So are the other washers pictured. Alright.. Pre-installed one of the retainers on the intake valve, using 1 on the black shim as shown in the picture and it was loose(can move it up and down, unless thats the way its suppose to fit?). So I installed 2 black ones, the rod would not go in. So I installed the silver one, too loose. Installed 2 silver ones rod would not go in. Tried a combination of 1 silver/1 black and is still the rod would not go in!!
The retainer is for the intake valve, tried different keepers, what the hell I'm doing wrong here? The valve is lowered so the rod would stay in place for the pic.

get the set up as close as you can. What the heck is all the grit on you heads. Try different retainers also as mentioned before there might be different ones

I already seperated the retainers.. They are correct, so the rod can be "close" enough to the retainer, thought it had to be "snug" as in no play/touching it? and all that is dirt, it was windy as hell yesterday. I really appreciate the help, btw!!!

You want to get as close as you possiibly can. You can always go to a machine shop and buy some different thickness VSI shims. If you can figure out which one you need. Get one that may be a little loose put a feeler gauge between the rod and retainer and see how close it is.
