It depends on how lucky you are, how good your tuner is, and weather or not you run race gas [Smile]

If you want to be on the safe side keep it at 8lbs. If you want to push it a bit then go for 10-12lbs.

If You are running the stock head's then You can throw 15-20 #'s at it because all boost is is a measure of restriction and with the stock head's "really restrictive" it won't take much to make a ton of boost "backpressure", an example would be a Pullied up s trim on a stock motor which can produce upward's of 20#'s & You throw the a good flowing HCI on the same engine with the same supercharger and You will only have around 12#'s of boost "backpressure". The main thing You have to worry about is cracking the block & with the stock head's You won't make enough power to crack it, unless You have a bad tune or a tired motor to begin with.

Actually the main thing you have to worry about is detonation. This could cause you to split a block, blow a head gasket, break a piston, etc, etc. The more boost the more likely you are to detonate.

I guess you could throw 20lbs of boost at a stock motor but it's chances of surviving very long are slim IMO.

I ran 20 psi for over 3 months on a stock 5.0 longblock with 168k and a 67mm turbo. Made 420hp to the rear wheels through an aod. I ran close to an 11.8:1 to 12.0:1 a/f ratio and 20 degrees of timing at 20 psi of boost, 91 pump gas and water/meth. I couldn't kill the motor, trust me i tried!! It can be done just don't detonate.

BTW: I never killed the motor. I ended up pulling all the turbo stuff off and selling the car on the motor alone. It still ran fine when i sold it. Only thing that showed it had boost was the oil return fitting in the oil pan.

I agree which is why I said "unless You have a BAD TUNE or a tired engine to begin with".

It's a crap shoot, some will live for year's and some will blow on the dyno but these engines are 20 year's old so what can You expect? Alot has to do with the way You drive it after You boost it, if it's a daily driver that is driven like it's stolen then skip putting the charger on the stock engine and step up to built dart block [Whoo Whooooo!] !
