I have a basic tfs heads/tfs1 cam/stock cobra upper and lower intake on my daily driver. The car has a vortech strim with the stock pulleys (seeing about 7-9 psi of vacuum). I still have the stock MAF, stock throttle body, and a home made blower intake pipe.
If I were to swap the throttle body (I was thinking of a new 70mm one as I measured the inlet opening on the stock cobra upper and it is approximately 70mm..which I can port if not exact to the throttle body) what kind of improvement (if any) would I expect?

you won't notice that much of a hp diff from a 65 to a 70 since your running a cobra intake . Unless its ported

My stock throttle body is definitely not 65mm..it is more like 55-59mm one (measured). I believe the '93 cobras came with a 65mm one though...so in other words you don't think the stock one is going to be a restriction at this point with my current mods...? Yeah It is a hurting your air flow . I think a 65mm or 70mm would be perfect with your set up . I got. A 65mm bbk for cheap . I dunno if it would work on your car though

You should notice improved throttle response and will probably pick up 5-10 HP.
Go with a 70mm and port your TB opening to match.

70mm would be perfect id go with that theyre right your not gonna see much difference between the 65 and 70 but you gotta remember your motor is only as efficient as its smallest link! As long as you dont go bigger then the manifold your good.

I'd say you would get good gains. You will see the most improvement upon initial throttle and perhaps when you are at WOT (whereas the stock throttle body will seem to "load" a bit and then take off with your current combination). [ February 23, 2009, 03:53 PM: Message edited by: CobramanPhil ]

Yeah. I know where your coming from. My weakest link is probably my 110K mile stock bottom end Did compression checks and everything seems to be normal though. Back in the days you would never think the cobra upper/lower intakes were a restriction I am sort of prepping this car for something w/more displacement (ie. 331/347), but with today's economy I can't just order up a dart block and go to town. Thanks for the information so far guys. Anyone use a trick flow track heat upper/lower intake with out of the box tfs tw heads? Oh hell ya on my last 306ci i had i ran the out of the box tfs tw, stage 1 cam and street intake but i had no blower and with comp cams upgraded spring that thing would pull hard up to 7000rpm it ran good put down 315 to the wheels and i ran 12.20 in my lx hatch. Definately love the tfs line they make good shit. I would have liked to see more cam and compression though to make a few more ponies. Ill be using those heads for sure in the near future.

Your power band will be limited by the cam and the intake. Go with a track heat if you want to bump up the power band a bit.
Another option to consider is to port your lower intake. It won't affect the power band but you should pick up some decent power.. for free

save your money, buy a Holley systemax intake, open it up to 75mm and run a 75mm throttle body.
Your bottle neck is not the throttle body, it's the intake.
you need to maintain good port velocity and the cobra intake is too small.
I ran smaller heads and a smaller cam on my 95 Cobra and it made over 500 at the wheels with 17 degrees of timing.
stock vortech v2 set up also. no pulley changes.
stock cast piston short block to boot!
