I have the current set up
B 303 cam, gt40x heads, cobra intake manifold 1.6 rockers
Would it be worth it to swap just AFR 165 or should I get a new cam also and 1.7 rr and if so what additional parts would I need for the swap

A set of afr 165 would really wake your combo up alot, they flow really great right out the box. But you should have your intake ported so it will flow the same amount. If you go to www.corral.net and look for a member named tmoss and check out his post's and his website you will see he can port a stock cobra intake to flow just like all the other big name intakes and still keep alot of your low end torq. He did my explorer gt40 intake huge improvement. A custom cam to match all your componets is were all the power really is-all thought I do like the letter cams unlike most people.

I would keep your 1.6rr and get the 165 afr and a custom cam and your intake ported by tmoss and you could make atleast 350 rwhp I did. my combo is a sony brown custom cam afr 165 1.6rr explorer intake same as your cobra ported by tmoss long tubes but if you go cusyom cam route you should now how to degree a cam cause they will send you the correct degree for cam to make good power. Good luck

yes, it would be worth it. You should see a noticable gain. While you are at it I would port your cobra intake (at least the lower).

I'm sure your current cam setup will work fine with those heads but I would consult the cam experts.. like 93pony [Smile]

Well, if you put it that way then I would vote for the blower all the way. You will gain much more power that way.

I see a lot of people go with the AFR 185 with no port work so there's room to grow if ever going stroker. But then a lot of people say its way to much flow for a 306.

I would go with the AFR 185's on the motor in question, because it will be something that you can grow into, rather than out of. At lot of blown and stroked 331's and 347 run AFR 205's, and bigger, so don't be shy to get bigger heads now. It is only a matter of time before a stroker and boost finds its way into your car. Get the bigger heads, port match the lower intake to the intake side of the heads, and if the budget allows, get a custom cam from here:

http://www.camshaftinnovations.com/

to make it all work together.

Right now I'm in the process of going with long tubes 1 5/8 or can I do 1 3/4?
But my current setup is monsoon shorties I never heard of em? Catted h and flows pretty sorry exhaust
I was thinking about having a catted x with my long tubes and slp lm1 resonators but I'm thinking it'll be too loud

with afr's longtubes are almost a must. i dont have longtubes by choice on my afr's but i shoulda.

if u stick with ur current setup shorties are ok.
get a non catted x pipe, should make a lil difference in power now. will make significant differance in power with custom cam and afr's

AFR 185's are available with emissions holes. They will pass smog, but your choice of cam will have more to do with passing the sniffer test.
