WHAT WOULD MAKE THE GROUND WIRE GOING TO THE BODY FROM THE NEG BATTERY POST HOT AT START UP? ALSO I NOTICED THAT THE GROUND FROM THE HEAD TO THE FIREWALL ALSO GETS HOT??? [ December 02, 2008, 10:32 PM: Message edited by: E's 89 COUPE ]

Adam is 100% correct. People sometimes forget the negative battery cable carries the same load as the positive cable.
Take 12v headlight for a car. Hook up a jumper cables to the positive battery and one side of the head light. Now take a tiny little wire hook it up to the negative side of the battery and the other side of the headlight. And see what happens:)

Just make sure that all your ground wires are tight, and on a bare metal surface. maybe even replace them with new ones, then go from there. because the resistance could be in the wires or in the starter. i would start with grounds though. Lmk
