depends on your setup, if you are running really high compression, nitrous or high boost, then i would lean towards yes, but i have no idea what your setup is

Cometic's are a complete waste for a replacement application. Unless the machine work (less than 50 RA) prep to the head surface has already been done, you will not get a good efficient sealing surface.

You'd be better off with a FelPro 9333 gasket and a good tune when doing a swapout like yours. Also, if it popped a HG, you need to find the root cause and not just throw parts at it. [Wink]

you need the same prep on the block as the heads with cometics. I o-ringed my block last year(borrowed a tool did it my self) so far it is working great. I have even seen were people o-ring blocks or heads and use the felpro gakets JohnB mentioned. In a perfect world you do not need it or if you can afford all the dyno tuning and feed back control systems.

the root cause was detination due to me being throttle happy before getting it to the tuner lol. I think im just gonna go with an $80 felpro MLS gasket and trailer it to the tuner. If I can afford it, would it be worth it in the long run to buy a set of expensive heavy duty gaskets?

Yup, quite possible~ and I ALWAYS try to ask around and get the word out about the website! [Cool]

And yes, the FelPro MLS gaskets will leak in a street application, especially around the lower head bolts...even with sealing the threads. 9333's for the win. [Smile]

Yes Obviously.

I much rather have the weak link in my engine be a rod then a headgasket that wont blow.
