FYI.
If you've installed any aftermarket guages, the State of California State Referee says regarding emmissions regulations: "remove ALL evidence of boost gauge... from veh[icle]."
The guage that I have for my 1999 GT is monitoring my Vortech supercharger, which itself passed inspection.
This new regulation was said to be enacted sometime in July 08, and it applies to various aftermarket guages. [ October 30, 2008, 08:53 PM: Message edited by: GT35TH ]

That's the official message that I received and it's printed on BAR paper, which is State approved. [ October 30, 2008, 07:37 PM: Message edited by: GT35TH ]

What if the boost gauges came factory? Not sure if they do but I wouldn't see why they wouldn't in the past.

I can not find anything in the Ca Vehicle Code about that. Doesn't mean it does not exist, I just can't find it.

Dealer direct guages may not be in-scope. However, any type of other guages, even non-boost related, that are aftermarket and are connected to any part of the vechicle that has to do with emmissions, could be restricted under this regulation.
This information I received today when I took my car in for inspection, and unless my eyes are focused improperly, this wording appears on my Vehicle Compliance Check List as an item for remediation. [ October 30, 2008, 07:53 PM: Message edited by: GT35TH ]

It appears that the State is starting to micro-regulate non-factory standard changes to the emissions system of vechicles; this, however, may not apply to exempt older vehicles.
I was surprised that the boost gauge was an issue, but that's the information I received. BTW, I have an Auto Meter boost gauge. [ October 30, 2008, 08:21 PM: Message edited by: GT35TH ]

they were deactivated for about 2 weeks, then limited open, now they're back full time, at least in my county. They only stopped because the state did not have a budget yet and wasn't making payments for repairs under the smog help bill, I'm not sure if that is back on yet or not.

I wish it were bogus. I got it directly from the Californiat State Referee and it's printed on the report that I received. According to the Ref, this is a new regulation, and it appears to have been put in effect with the other regulations like cellphone usage, etc. back in July 08. Many smog places may not know about it.
The Referee stations were closed due to the California State budget issues. According the the Ref., they reopened earlier this month. [ October 31, 2008, 08:34 AM: Message edited by: GT35TH ]
