well there is no dizzy only a coil pack and cam sensor for timing, so you just pull the cover off and turn the motor till the timing marks line up, if the car is a manual the previous owner could have beat it up and banged gears to the point where the belt will skip a tooth and runrough or throw a check engine light on for being advance or retarded timing, see it alot with the hondas lol.

There's really no excuse to not getting the codes. If you drive it, which I assume you are, you can drive it to AutoZone and they will run the codes on it for you free.

Hey sorry man, wasn't meaning to sound like a dick or anything. Take her to AutoZone or Advanced or something and they can run the codes for ya.

The timing isn't adjustable, cannot be adjusted. That engine does not use a timing belt, it has a timing chain. It's nearly impossible for a timing chain to skip a tooth. Get your DTC's pulled, if I were to take a guess I'd say it's running lean due to a vacuum leak.

Check your IMRC (intake manifold runner control). The small rod that connects the motor to the butterflys in the intake manifold have plastic grommets that can break and the rod comes loose. If thats ok disconnect the rod and turn the butteryfly lever by hand, it should have a little tension to it. If it is sticking/binding then there's your problem. If the butteryflys move without binding then your IMRC motor probably went bad. Check your e-mail also.
