is this possible to only have one at start up? the right side by the valve cover ticks at start up, then goes away after driving for a minute. what do you guys think it could it be?

Most likely the manifold or header gasket, once warmed up the metal expands and closes the leak.

If you smell exhaust inside your engine compartment on startup then i would say that's exactly what it is.
BUT... when you say it goes away after driving does this mean you just don't hear it anymore WHILE driving? Or do you stop and then get out and listen for it again and it's gone?
