How many miles on car? what was it used for, commuter, drags? sounds like it might be plugged, as if its only low when there is a lack of exelerated pull from the pump. Do you know what I'm trying to say it's hard to describe. Have you tried changing the oil sending unit?

stock gauges are junk. get a real mechanical gauge on there asap, you could very well hurt something

if you're relying on the stock gauge, its not telling u much. theyre basically idiot gauges that are on or off. as mentioned, your best bet is to throw on a aftermarket gauge & sender. u can tap off the fitting near the oil filter where the factory sender is. it could be the sender is bad on the factory gauge as well. if you plan on putting a gauge inside, i suggest u go w/ a electrical gauge vs a mechanical cuz the last thing you'd want is the nylon hose to fail, spilling hot oil into your interior or possibly you're face while driving.

electrical is just a more expensive stock gauge. if you REALLY want to know your oil pressure, use a mechanical gauge with a steel braided line if you dont think your competent enough to route it where it wont get damaged.

not really cuz it does show resolution like a mechanical gauge. the stock idiot one is either working or not. my current car has a mechanical gauge that is mounted on the cluster using the nylon line. ihave a copper line that is yet to be installed...steel braided i looked into and figure the copper is flexible enough and should last forever as long as its routed correctly.

the stock one isnt an idiot light. it just doesnt hav numbers and doesnt work well. you can still experience a problem with the sender on any electrical gauge and believe you have oil pressure when you may not. same wont happen with mechanical.

the stock one is basically a digital qauge, meaning that its either low or high and no in between. even if they had numbers they wouldnt tell much since the resolution is basically 2 step. 0 or middle reading.
yes, no question about the mechanical being more accurate and less potential issues...u just gotta be careful w/ failed oil lines.

if it does it off and on you're probably low on oil.
