I think in unplug the inertia switch in the trunk next to the tail light then try to start the car-doing this depressurises the system. no smoking and unplug negitive on battery ! jack the car up with jack stands, disconnect the two fuel line from the tank plus the vapor vent line,disconnect both fuel sender and fuel pump harness,unbolt the gas filler using i think a 8 and 10mm sockets.loosen the tank strap using a cordless impact and (1/2 0r 9/16" socket)makes it a ease. now some of the thing you'll have to disconnect will be a bitch so it might be easier as you drop the tank half ass in order to get to'em. oh and use a floor jack to assist you in lowering the tank. you'll figure it out, just reverse process and remember to plug the inertia switch back in. I forgot to add if/when removing the retaining ring(s) off the top of the tank-use masking tape on the flat head screw driver when smacking it with your hammer. 10w40 oil is okay to use to reinstall the gas filler neck. check for leak before you test drive Posts: 1276 | From: Long Beach C.A | Registered: Jul 2002  |  : 92stangLX ¯ Member # 3252 posted                              Not too bad if your tank is near empty and you have a buddy help. The worst part about it is being covered in gas when you are done. Make sure you don't create a start when taking off the retaining ring (experts say use a brass punch instead of steel).
