There is a tool you can use in place of a valve and it will cut the pocket perfect on the piston for you i belive that Herbert cams has it.

I believe You are refering to the "isky" tool. I have AFR 185's and bought a shortblock off a member here and He used this tool to cut bigger relief's in My piston's. He said it was time consuming but it beat's spending money on new piston's.

thanks for the reply, i will look into this tool have any of you guys used it? im guessing you would have to remove all valves then put this tool in and bolt the head down and then cut then take the head off put tool in next hole bolt down and so on?

You will have to put the cam in and then pull the head's and cut the piston & clay each cylender to check for clearance. FYI I have the F cam in Mine.

I have an AOD with a pretty big stall so it goes stright to 5000 rpm's when I put the loud pedal to the floor & it also pull's hard to 6500. I will go custom on My next build "dart block" but with a stockblock the F cam work's well and put's Me into block splitting power level with 12 #'s of boost & the F cam came in the shortblock that I purchased so I can't complain. I had the E cam before and this cam out perform's the E and idles alot smoother.

It's an edge 9.5 inch street/strip. What gear's You running? What intake? Manual or auto? I would think the stock cam would be Your best bet on the low end [Confused] ? I had the E cam in Mine before the boost with My AFR's and even with a shitty B&M converter & 373's and it had decent low end. What cam You going to go to & are You going to keep it NA?

You aer'nt going to get the performance You want with stock gear's & converter. I would recommend going to www.clickclickracing.com and reading up on what it is going to take to make that AOD live behind Your newfound power [Wink] , I would say at minimum You will need a 1 piece input shaft and a shift kit. Next get those gear's installed & contact Andre @ www.edgeracingconverters.com and He will set You up with a converter [burnout] . But 1st You are going to have to figure out if You are going to put a cam in it or not?

http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=963147

Here is a decent thread with a similar combo to Your's and You should do a custom cam! If You can't afford to do everything at once then do the gear's, tranny mod's, and converter now & save for the cam down the road. You can't believe the difference you will feel when You put the edge converter in Your ride [Eek!] . Take care of the driveline before You do the cam [Wink] .
