Does anyone know the maximum splines available for a spool/axle combo for an 8.8 rearend?

33-spline is about the limit. Most manufacturers don't make a carrier/spool over that, but I'm sure you could talk someone into a 35-spline.
If you need to step up in size, a 9" is the way to go. 40-splines are available.

You really don't need anything over 33 either. You can get up to 40 spline for an 8.8 but it is way over kill.

33 spline axles will be pushed going mid 8's, they should live since you are still on a small tire

I think I'm fine with what I have with my current motor. I'm trying to think ahead on the next motor. The motor after the next motor will probably earn a 9", the back half, etc etc
Here's a great calculator to help determine your axle/spline needs:

A 35 spline and a detoit locker will fit in a 8.8
You would be good for around 1000+ hp if your axle tubes are welded and you have a girdle.
