I want to take my '93 chp to the track. Any recomendatons I should do to the car before I go? I was looking for some suspension and brake upgrades, or is the chp suspension and brakes good enough? Lowering springs? C/C plates? Shocks? Brakes?

Any recomendations for brand and type would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of track? From you're questions I assume a road race or auto-x.

Your "CHP" suspension is the same as a stock 5.0, but if the car is in good condition it will be fine with stock everything.

what I would do -
replace all fluids
pressure bleed and flush the brake fluid
get some good brake pads, like hawk-hp
bleed and fill the p/s system
check all of your wheel bearings
raise the tire pressure in your front tires to 40-43psi, leave the rears at 35psi.
Make sure your seat belts work properly.
Have a good alignment done.
Check all of the bushings on the car, if you need to replace any, replace them with poly, if your front control arm bushings or balljoints need replacing, just buy new arms as they will come with new bushings and balljoints already installed in them, same with the rear.

Buy a good helmet, check with the track / group you would be going with for requirements.

you don't need to change anything on the car to have fun, just make sure it's running right and everything is in good working order, especially your steering and brake systems.

after you've done a few track days, checkout www.maximummotorsports.com and www.wolferacecraft.com for some goodies, I run a lot of MM stuff on my cars and I'm extremely happy with how they make them perform on the track.

What he said. You don't need to modify anything for your first time out. Just make sure everything is in good working order and fresh fluids. As your skills improve the Fairmont chassis and suspension will rear it's ugly head. That's when it's time to visit maximum motorsports or griggs.

You assumed right. I plan on road racing my car. It's nice to hear that I don't have to do much except a little maintenance and upkeep.

When might be the next open track event I could attend with my car?

Thanks for the quick and knowledgable responses!
