I would leave the equal's if You already have them. Longtubes are a pain in the ass to take on and off and won't make a huge difference.

If You got them for free then give them a shot. Did You get the matching H pipe with it also? If You have stock motor mount's You might as well change them out when You do the swap as You will probably have to lift the engine up anyway & it will give You more header clearance as compared to the worn out stock ones.

GO with longtubes. I mean you only have to smog your car every 2 years so why not. Plus you will make more power with longtubes. WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE RUN OPEN LONGTUBES AT THE STRIP? Do it man If you care about smog dont do it that easy

Is this car making anywhere near 600+HP? The difference will be no more than 10-15 HP so if He want's to take the smog risk and the time and effort of the install then by all mean's go for it!! There are MANY people making big dyno #'s with shorty's header's & 600 hp is no problem through 1 5/8 short tube NON equal lenghth header's with cat's.

LIKE I SAID SHOW ME DON'T JUST SAY CARS MAKE THAT WITH SHORTY HEADERS.
AND IF YOU DO PLAN TO GO FOR ANYWHERE NEAR 500-600 HP YOU HAVE TO GET LONGTUBES TO IMPROVE AIR FLOW THROUGH AND OUT THE ENGINE CUZ IF YOU CHANGE FUEL INJECTORS YOU HAVE TO DO IT TO COMPENSATE FOR THE AIR/FUEL RATIO. ENGINE'S HAVE TO BREATH TO MAKE POWER.
DO THE LONGTUBES IF YOU WANT POWER BRO. YOU WILL FEEL A DIFF. BETWEEN THEM ESPECIALLY IF YOU DECIDE TO ADD ANY POWER ADDERS(etc. SUPERCHARGER)
IF YOU AINT A REAL CAR GUY OR FORD MAN THEN CRY ABOUT THE HASSLE.

WHAT MUSTANG MAKES 500-600 HP WITH SHORTY HEADERS AND NON HI-FLO CATS?
YOUR FOOLIN URSELF DO SOME RESEARCH. SHORTY HEADERS ARE LIMITED IN THE AMOUNT OF POWER GAINS THEY CAN ACHIEVE UNLESS YOU HAVE A BIGGER ENGINE. AND THEY ARE STILL LIMITED TO AN EXTENT. WITH THE RIGHT APPLICATION YOU CAN GAIN AT LEAST 25 HP MORE TO THE REAR WHEELS WITH LONGTUBES.

I made 600 hp with 1 5/8ths inch unequal length header's, and stock catback with 306 and a little SC trim. I know all about longtubes because I have had them on and off My car about a dozen times so I know all about the HASSLE of the install. Have You ever installed longtubes on a mustang? The original question is which one is better so for HIS car I still say that equal length's are more than enough for His car now, would He FEEL a seat of the pant's difference? I doubt it. Longtubes will only make a difference if it is a restriction and I doubt that with equal length's that the exhaust is holding it back.

From personal expierence ( like maybe 2months ago) I went from EQ BBK shorty's to 1 5/8" BBK Long Tubes.
The car deffinatley has more torque, the car burns the tires alot more now when slapping gears hard...
the only reason i put on LT's was because my Shorty's were leaking hella bad at teh ball flange's and i was tired of jacking up the car to tighten them bitchs up...
the LT's deff sound alot better (nice clicking, ticking sound in the pipes)
also i noticed a little quicker Throttle response.
Theres easier ways to make more power, thats for sure...i would have rather put on a set of Heads then do LT's again....
O and if you have the energy suspension Mounts like me you have to cut/grind off 1 of the ears on the pass side for it to fit properly...
