I was looking in to some tuning ecu equipment/companies. and i've been told that tweecer, aem, and fast. are all good choices, however. which is the best. the tweecer i saw was like $600 . aem is like $2000. and i coudn't find a price however it seemed bad ass. i figured fast was focused on american v8's as in aem mostly ricers, with a little bit of american cars. correct me if im wrong. im just trying to buy the best, so only buy it once.

Check out MegaSquirt, I've heard great things about them, no personal experience though, just worth a look since you didn't mention them.
-------------------- Yellow94GT never touched anyone's sig or banned anyone, so I'm going to quit spreading that rumor. It's not like I have any proof anyways. All yellow94gt and other mods have done is volunteer their time to help other people buy/sell parts, learn how to make their cars go faster and meet fellow enthusiasts. I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. SCT uses an excellent tuning stratagy based on factory programs/sensors. There is really nothing better to use if you want to keep your stock computer/sensors/wiring/software.
I use the AFM PMS for both of our personal mustangs. One is a TT 331 93 Cobra which dialed in VERY easily, the other is my wife's N/A 11:1 347 91GT. That car was more challanging due to the radical setup (442RWHP), but runs excellent. I could tune both cars using SCT, but I had the PMS's before I started using the SCT stuff & have no real complaints....so why change. On some cars the PMS just won't cut it though.
Fast & AEM are nice stand alone systems with extreme tuning control....if you know how to use it. I will end up swapping the TT 93 Cobra over to a Fast bank-to-bank system one of these days. Main reason is I want to run larger injectors & there are no mass air sensors for my particular (rare) Incon mass air housing. FAST doesn't use a mass-air. It uses a wideband O2 for A/F corrections. AEM is the same way, uses a wideband for A/F corrections on the fly. The factory computer & SCT software use the stock narrowband O2's for part-throttle corrections (very accurate), but does not use any O2 for WOT A/F correction.
Megasquirt is a home-made stand alone tuning system. You can basically make it what you want........if you have the time & inclination, this can be a great alternative as the price can be very reasonable.
Factory computers are great for drivability (part throttle), but are not as accurate at WOT changes. Stand alone systems are great at WOT changes, but can be hard to dial in drivability.
All have their positives/negatives. IMO none are the 'end all be all'. My personal preferance is to use the factory hardware/software to control normal driving conditions & a wideband Stand alone system for WOT. This is almost what the PMS is.....except it does not automatically correct WOT A/F based on wideband readings like other systems (FAST). Same with the SCT software....factory tuning with excellent parameters, but doesn't use a wideband to automatically correct WOT A/F. Both PMS & SCT use mass air flow to give the correct WOT A/F. This means changes to the setup (adding a cold-air, intake manifold, or simply clocking the mass-air) can make drastic changes in WOT A/F & the computer has no way of correcting this. Stand-alone systems using a wideband would automatically correct the A/F IF they were programed correctly.
The question you should ask yourself is this: Do you want to do the tuning yourself? With a Pro's help? Or just let a professional take care of it?

im going to do it myself. i just want total complete control. the new motor is going to a 427 windsor TT, 16-22 lbs boost depends how good my i can tune control for pump 91. i want a near 100% fail safe computer, im only interasted in stand alone. only because of my applictation for it's use. sct sounds cool for mild cars street strip cars. my new motor is all out domination for those gm and import guys. i want atleast 2 knock sensor, total air/fuel control. spark timing, and ijector timing. and adjust fuel pressure, and be able to controle the waste gate for controling boost for daily driving and race. i want seperate maps for everything and type of fuel. i want laptop visuals on everything. to see my knock threshold. so now can some one plz tell me the best of the best. even if it's not one of the ones i've mentioned. i haven't seen em all. thx

Skip knock sensors.....they'd be useless in an application like this. You will definately NOT be running pump gas. 18psi is 100 octane territory, behond that I'd highly recomend Sunoco Maximal (116octane). You can mix Maximal with pump, or 100 & come up with whatever octane you desire.
For referance, by my calculations: 8.5:1 compression 26 degrees total timing (you can run lower, but this is ideal for most 20 degree inline SBF heads). 16psi 102 octane 22psi, same timing/compression: 109 octane

Pump gas has a motor octane of around 83. Sure, it can be done on lower boost, but you'll end up glowing the exhaust manifolds red from running excessively retarded timing. This will eventually lead to exhaust valve guide failure & cracked exhaust manifolds.
If you're determined to run pump crap, check out E85 & the related tuning sites for it. It has a motor octane of 105, but you need to run significantly more fuel to get it to work properly. (~35-40% more fuel). Which means larger injectors/fuel system. And, the formulation changes depending on weather/state.

like i said ill do it and prove it. im going to run pump gas and make the power i want. i i make the same power as you on pump gas at which you have to run race fuel. i believe that i win, since i truely has the more streetable car. i've made a zo6 corvette 360ci 760 rwhp on pump gas. so i have no doupt that i can do it with a 427ci windsor actually it's a ford so i bet i can do it with a 331.
