To keep me on the track, my father-in-law handed down (literally FREE) a '91 LX 5.0 AOD hatch to me. The whole car needs some work. The body is somewhat straight (no rust), but needs the bumper, cover and hood replaced... he rear-ended someone and it's been in the garage since.<br /><br />The car seems old to me. Mileage is up in the 180k range. <br /><br />What can I do with a budget of $10k - $12k (including body work)?<br /><br />I'd like it to AT LEAST pass the smog sniffer test (not too concerned about the visual, but it'd be nice).<br /><br />Goal is as close to 12.0 sec in the 1/4 mile without going any faster (don't want the need for a cage). <br />I was considering a 347.<br /><br />Not too loud (it'd be nice to take an occasional cruise with the family).<br /><br />Nice smooth ride without the look of a Monster Truck (good suspension combo).<br /><br />AOD stays. Any shops do Tranny builds? What kind of parts would I need to have one built?<br /><br />In the end, this car will be intended as a weekend cruiser car with occasional trips to the track.<br /><br />Thanks in advance.
