The Trans Am was traded in for a family car (IS300). To keep me on the track, my father-in-law handed down (literally FREE) a '91 LX 5.0 AOD hatch to me. The whole car needs some work. The body is somewhat straight (no rust), but needs the bumper, cover and hood replaced... he rear-ended someone and it's been in the garage since.
The car seems old to me. Mileage is up in the 180k range.
What can I do with a budget of $10k - $12k (including body work)?
I'd like it to AT LEAST pass the smog sniffer test (not too concerned about the visual, but it'd be nice).
Goal is as close to 12.0 sec in the 1/4 mile without going any faster (don't want the need for a cage). I was considering a 347.
Not too loud (it'd be nice to take an occasional cruise with the family).
Nice smooth ride without the look of a Monster Truck (good suspension combo).
AOD stays. Any shops do Tranny builds? What kind of parts would I need to have one built?
In the end, this car will be intended as a weekend cruiser car with occasional trips to the track.
Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to the new project! [ September 12, 2007, 01:47 PM: Message edited by: Dyrti Byrd 2k2 ]
