i was thinking of buying this 331 shortblock off ebay for 1,500 can any one tell me if this block is any good are no any where i can get a 331 for that price or cheaper the blco is from m&r

$1500 seems suspiciously cheap for a quality 331 shortblock.

On paper it looks decent but you never know. Its also balanced to 28oz so you'll have to get a new balancer and flywheel if your going to run it in anything newer than an 81 car.

if you going with M&R please keep us posted if the engine runs healty. I've ask them some months ago if they offer any other pistons,and they told me they have probe blower pistons for $1650. nice but who knows if these guys have good assemblers or crapy machining/cut corners ya know?

not bad...balanced, forged slugs etc etc.
What is the core cost and shipping on that? They can kill your "deal" there.

So then only a two piece rear main seal on them??
Is it a roller block?
You will need a 28 oz balancer and flywheel, remember.

I dont have any motors for sale, sorry.
There are a few people (JohnB, etc) on there that can and will build you a quality shortblock.
I don't do side work for anyone on here, anymore.

Retail on the Crankshaft is $217 Retail on the rods: $225 Retail on similar pistons: Under $300 Rings & bearings: $175 or less
That's $917 retail & I know of kits with 2618 forged pistons that retail for $899. Any way you slice it you're looking at around $900 RETAIL for the rotating assembly. Figure any good machine shop will have much better pricing (at least 20% less) & you're looking at cost of around $700. Add a block & machine work & yes it's very possible that a machine shop can do all the operations listed, balance, & assemble the shortblock & still make a decent profit while keeping the machining/assembly quality high.....even if the parts themselves are 'economy'.
From my experience a cast-steel stroker crankshaft & 'SIR' style rods will hold more power than the stock block can handle. The pistons would not be my choice considering the dirt-cheap pricing of Probe's 2618 forgings, but hey...I'm sure they'll still much stronger than the stock 302 slugs which have been known to handle well over 500hp.
Honestly, it's a damn good price. I know I wouldn't buy one....but I'm an engine builder & if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna spend a little more $$$ & do it right. However, I see no reason why this motor can not handle 450+HP if the machining/assembly was done correctly. In the end the rotating assembly can handle more Power than the block.
Personally I'd go for a 347. Same price as a 331 & you can't go wrong with more cubes IMO.
