That question is a hard one. You can get a quick number for a short time using a stock block or get a good block with mild parts and have a motor for a long time. What is your goal? As fast as possible or something thats gonna last? Do you wanna be 302 based or are more cubes an option? A quick tried and tested 10 second combo is a high compression 347 with a Victor JR. set up, add a little juice and 9's are right there.
If it were me Id get a 347 high compression (12-13-non driver) with a carbed Victor Jr. set up and be good.
Oh and go big the first time theres no sense in spending tons of money on port work when the same flow can be had for $100 at the initial buy. Meaning dont buy AFR 165'S and later spend $800 on porting and valves to get them to flow like AFR 185's. [ June 21, 2007, 02:30 AM: Message edited by: opie ]

i would buy, and not sure on brand for the 347 but,
-a 347 stroker long block with afr 185 heads -tfs 3 cam -ported tfs intake or somethin -d1sc procharger with 3 core intercooler at like 18psi
and that should be ur 8'gs right there depending on what brand block and stroker......but should be around there
should be good for at least an easy 600+ rwhp....i repeat, EASY
thats what i would do

+1 except I would stroke it out to 331. Shouldn't cost you a lot more to do this.

No need to go with a 331 if He is staying with a stockblock. S trim pullied & powerpiped will push a stockblock to it's limit's without the extra cubes. I say do it rite with a good block and then stroke it out to about 360 cubes and work from there.
