How do you check the oil level for a rear differential. I don't know which bolt to remove to do it. Thank you
Ok I found the plug but how do I take it out? [ May 04, 2007, 03:52 PM: Message edited by: Scoobysnack ]

depends on what car / diff you have. most you need to pull the cover off and let it drain then re seal it. If you go to the qucik oil change places they can Evac it also for a fee.

What is Evac? I don't even know if it needs to be changed but I'm getting a weird noise from the back end and thought I would start with a fluid change.

Evac is a machine a oil change place uses to suck the fluid out without takeing the cover off. To check the rearend fluid level all you have to do is take the plug out, if its full you should have fluid right at the hole, if it starts to come out real fast when you take the plug out then its to full, MAKE SURE THE CAR IS LEVAL WHEN CHECKING. oh yea use a 3/8 rachet to remove the plug.
