Need to have the rear fenders rolled on my car. Anyone know of a place that does it? Alos, how much does it cost? Thanks!

I'm trying to do the same thing right now. I'm actually trying to do it myself since I've heard of shops chraging $100-150 per fender. You can rent the tool online here--> tool rental
Or there's a place in SF that rents the tool out, but I noticed that's kinda far for you.

You'll be lucky to find a shop that does it. I called a lot of places with no takers. Most shops will not do it anymore because it's very easy to crack the paint. Your best bet is to find someone who will rent the tool.

he's right, shops cut the fender lips instead(which is better)
I do not recommend rolling them at all.
have them cut

Make sure they sand it or grind it after they cut it cause I would assume the edges will be sharp after they cut it and if your tire still hits it it won't shred em.

I am may not be a structural engineer, but I think that by cutting it you will be weakening the side load of the fender (i.e. if some fat ass leans against the fender it will dent inward) which is why I am hesitant to cut them. At least with rolling the fender lip you will have ~twice the side load bearing capacity. I think we should get a list of people that want to have it done and we all pitch in money and have a fender rolling party!!! [ March 31, 2007, 12:59 AM: Message edited by: truthseeker ]

I found a place in the Bay that has the tool for rent. PM me your guys e-mail and name and I will see when the tool is available for rent. I think it costs $59 for 3 days or $89 for 7 days. It has the heat gun and everything. If they have it available I will have them mail it to me and we can all meet sometime this weekend to roll everyones fenders.

cutting is old school and to do it right it must be welded. rolling tool is best bet but no sure bet you wont need paint

Hell man, we used a baseball bat and the wheel, and just rolled the car back and forth. It took a while, but it worked, and then massaged it with a hammer. It is best to do this before a paint job, even with the tool. A good ol' 30" 2 1/4" barrel bat will do just fine, LOL... Done several like that, until we could afford to buy the tool.

Careful with the tool. I used the tool from Eastwood from a friend, and destroyed a perfectly good fender. Instead of rolling the lip, it stretched the entire fender out an inch! Great if you want huge meats but the car looked like shit. Good thing the fender wasn't painted yet. Maybe it was my technique that caused the problem, but most guys will only use the tool once, so how are you to know? I will be using the tried and true baseball bat on the next fender.

I have experience with rolling and cutting fender lips. Both offer advantages and disadvantages.
I truly cringe when I think of fender work. Based on my experience, if I ever have to roll fenders again, the car is going straight into a professional shop to get done.
It is far too stressful for a novice if you care about your car. Rolling fenders is an art and imho should not be done by just anyone. The problem is that most people who roll fenders are doing it their first time ever on their car. That is no time for experimentation or practice.
Every fender I ever rolled and every fender I have ever seen rolled cracked the paint right on the lip. I have used heat guns with infrared monitors too... paint still cracks.
Final note: if you don't care that much about your car, go ahead and give it a shot. But if your car is exceptionally clean, leave it to a pro.

and do you know a shop that will do it in bay area? price range maybe?

I certainly don't.
I would call around to some race oriented shops and see who they recommend. Maybe call a few of the upper end body shops and see what they have to say. Call around. Eventually you will find someone.
I know Apex was doing them at one point. I don't know if I would trust them to do body work however.

I just did mine 2 months ago with the good ol baseball bat. I aired up my slicks and held the bat at the angle I wanted my fender lips to be and had my buddy roll the car back and then forth and the fenders came out perfect. in some cases the fenders might need some convincing good luck and dont let the bat just sit there and do its thing when rolling the car back and forth-BE SURE TO BE HOLDING THE BAT AT SOME SORT OF ANGLE and you wont get that riduculous gap that you dont want -rick
