before summer gets here im gonna upgrade my cooling system on my 89 gt. im gonna get a summit aluminum radiator. my question is about the fan and the water pump, i really want to go electric. i was thinking of getting a flex-a-lite . Also, are the electric drive water pumps worth it, or should i stick to a mechanical one??? let me know what you think! [ February 02, 2007, 12:30 PM: Message edited by: fiftee1989 ]

I myself am running a 3 row gdi radiator, flex fan w/ spacer and stock pump.
A fluidyne or any other aluminum radiator will do just fine. For sure ditch that clutch fan and go with a flex/electric unit.
The electric pump I believe is more intended for strip use but I believe there are some folks running it on the street.

What's wrong with a clutch fan? Used correctly (with a shroud), and the correct type (there are more than one that came on a Mustang) they work awesome. I've had one on my Cobra the entire time, no issues, and it's a stroked Windsor.
Electric ones, IMO, are not intended for extended street driving.

What mods (if any) are done to your car? If it is near stock then I would run the Summit Radiator, 180 thermostat, stock fan w/ the shroud, and stock water pump.

The Mark VIII electric fans are the best OEM fans and better than almost any aftermarket fan.

stay away from flex fans? ive had zero problems running them on 5.0's. theyre just as good if not better than stock ones.
