I have started to install these mac headers that ive had for a minute. They are 1 5/8 unequal length headers. part #E508692

The driver side header rubs slightly on the steering shaft.

Once its tightened to the h pipe will it pull it away?

this is on a 88 gt btw. any help is appreciated.

I did notice the driver side mount was cracked and worn.

If not ill get some new oem pieces.

Is it true that poly mounts raise the motor a bit?

I also heard that vert mounts lower the motor or something [Confused]

I just want to get that extra clearence i need.

I heard solid mounts wear out and seem to crack easier.

You can either:

Beat the header that is hitting the steering shaft

Buy a flaming river or MM shaft that eliminates the rag joint

I don't know if any motor mount raises or lowers the engine though.

Not sure about Mustangs, but on some cars I've had luck with loosening the steering column bolts at the firewall and moving it over a bit.

I believe "convertible" style mounts actually lower the engine.

Clearence wont be a problem since i have a 2" cowl on the car already.

Polys i heard raise it but am not sure on that part.

Any other insight on these rumors?

poly mounts will raise the motor at least a 1/2" maybe a little more. The vert mounts are what I use on my cars.
