I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT. I'm not a mechanic but I can check things if instructed to. Here's the problem...
Right now my car will not start. It started up last night and ran fine. Today when we were leaving to go shopping, it wouldn't start. There's more than half tank of gas, the battery is new and the starter sounds okay. I thought it might have been the starter or the ignition because when I hook cables up to another car, it starts up. This time it didn't. Anything I can check to see if things are loose, off, disconnected or need replacing?
PLEASE HELP!!!

It could be your ignition module, they can work one second and then just quit.

Can it be the ignition distributor? If I was to replace it, might that solve the problem? My wife has a CRX and it had the same problem. I had the distributor & rotor changed and it starts right away now.

There is an ignition module, I'm not sure if its on the dist or mounted in the engine bay somewhere. You need to check for the basics first like fuel and spark, then work from there. Even though you have fuel in the tank the pump could go out.

I started easy and changed the fuel relay...that seemed to get the truck started. I just hope that's the problem. I will change the fuel filter soon tho. The fuel pump is still good. [ December 23, 2006, 12:17 PM: Message edited by: islnder102 ]
