Heres the deal, I just recently had a new 317 stroker put into my 89 Stang. I replaced the motor only, not the trans. The new motor is fitting too tight against the AoD and putting pressure on the pump. I am using the stock flexplate.

I was told that I may have a crank that's larger at the backend, and possibly require a different flexplate. The motor was supplied by Ford Performance Solutions, and they say all cranks are the same, and there is no reason why it won't fit right.

The trans install was first attempted at my work (they are Ford/domestic specialist), then I brought it to a Trans shop. They had the same problem. The local ATI trans guy came buy and measured/inspected the converter & couldn't find any reason why it's too tight when installing.

Any ideas?

If the converter is not fully seated in the pump, It has to catch the pump, (the two flat spots on the end of the converter), The stator support (large splines on the pump) and the input shaft ( splined shaft that goes in the pump). While spinning and putting pressure it should go inward three times.

Also if the back of the crankshaft was not drilled for a auto trans and doesn't have room for the converter to center into.
