In my car when I shift 4-5 at over 2500 I get a little grind/pop. Other than that the tranny works fine, downshifting and everything. I recently got the tranny fluid changed. Went with royal purple ATF. Does this sound like a bad 5th gear syncro or blocker ring??
*edit* Im going to try and adjust the clutch cable. However, I dont think its going to help since no other gears grind.... [ November 30, 2006, 01:46 AM: Message edited by: adower ]

Sounds like it but it comes and goes, I dont think a syncro shouldnt do that. He doesnt beat on the car either so it doesnt make sense that it would just go out like that.

Can I just buy a fifth gear syncro? Or do I have to get a whole rebuild kit?

I dont know if this makes any difference but above 2500 rpm it always grinds...

In order to replace the synchro the trans needs to come out and all the way apart.

if you have a short shifter on it...check the adjustment stops to make sure that you have enough play to go into the gears properly...I've seen that fix the situation or..in rare cases maybe a clutch problem..

Is it gear clash rather than a grind? If it is gear clash then I have hunch that it is the synchro set for 4 to 5. My bro had the prob in his but it was for 2 to 3, and 3 to 4. It would work sometimes and not others. Then later he couldn't shift at all:5.0 grounded! He r2 the tranny. Bimini Blue/P41E-N-117418 @ 255365.4
