The oil change before last I put in some magnectic drain plugs. I didn't think they would really pick anything up when buying them but figured they cost just as much as regular drain plugs. In any case I pulled the front plug first and you can see how clean it is. I was oily but had little to no metal on it. Then I pulled the bottom drain plug and it had a surprise on the end of it.

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?

It almost looks like the tip of the drain plug broke off and is stuck there.

Thats what I thought too at first but when putting it on top of the drain plug the peice is slighly smaller in diameter and the two drain plugs still match up perfect. I'll take a couple more shots and post them. I'm a little worried because this isn't some little metal shaving this is an actual metal "object" that was floating around in my pan. [patriot]

looks like it might be a chunk of the old drainplug.

I'd personally just be happy it's not in there anymore [Smile]

Here are a couple more shots. I really can't get a close up without it being blurry. But this give you an idea of the size. Very happy it isn't in there [Big Grin]

Are you running cork gaskets. That looks like the spacer they use in the cork gasket so they don't crush all the way. I have seen several oil pums seize because of those damn things.

Which gaskets do you mean? Valve covers are a blue rubber gasket with steel inside, can't remember the name but they seem to work really well and for the money I paid for them they better.

My oil pan gasket I have no clue what it is. I've never changed it. I have a small rear main seal leak like 95% of all fox's do.

Off subject,...any particular oil pan gasket I should use when doing the rear main seal and oil pan?

Oh yeah and one side of that metal disk is flat and the other looks very little smushed/mushroomed. Maybe its been in there a long time. I think the old valve cover gaskets I took off were cork. Like 2 years ago.

looks like a watch battery. when you take a close pic, turn on macro mode(the little flower shape on the camera) and it will focus better.

Whatever it is good thing the oil pump has a screen on it. Ford is not the cleanest with thier motor castings. I found all sorts of crap in my 1993 GT when I took it apart.

thanks for the tip! I just bought this camera and was a little pissed off yesterday I couldn't get a better shot. Canon A530,...my first digital canon camera. A little more involved than the regular sony cybershots. [patriot]
