I'm posting this for a friend, but here's what he has.
1986 F150 5.0. Here are the numbers...
HC CO NO 15MPH 131 320 169 : .87 2.17 1.09 : 1085 2050 537 25MPH 103 270 209 : 1.10 2.40 2.63 : 1120 2100 196
Numbers are in this order - MAX GP MEAS
He failed on HC and CO. I believe high HC means motor is running lean. but I do not know what high CO is? Any help would be great. [ October 05, 2006, 03:44 PM: Message edited by: 1bdpone ]

High HC is too hot,which can mean lean.Ive seen alot of times where this is because of plugged EGR passages.

with the NO being so low, it looks like it's running really lean

HC=Hydro Carbons. CO=Carbon Monoxide. NO=Nitrogens of Oxides.
Hydro Carbons is more or less unburned fuel out the tail pipe. The high HC and CO coupled with the low NO shows the engine is running rich (the cooling effect of extra fuel in the combustion chamber causes low NO readings. A lean running condition would raise combustion chamber temperatures and therefore raise NO readings.). Since it is an '86, the engine is fuel injected but not a MAF car and the fuel mixture is not adjustable. Things to check first: a good set of spark plugs, a properly working thermostat (a thermostat stuck open will not allow the engine to reach operating temperature and will run in constant "open loop" mode) and the MAP sensor. Check the condition of the vacuum tube going to the MAP sensor. [ October 06, 2006, 01:40 PM: Message edited by: S351-R ]

What are your 02 readings? If the o2s are switching properly then it will read similar to that. The mustangs are very dependent on the Air pump system working. I need to know the 02 readings to see if the Air pump is working.
My 347 with a .600 plus lift cam passes with no problems. I am also a former smog tech.
