Hi people. So as most of you know I have this '69 Mustang coupe which will soon be powered by a 5.0 from a '97 Explorer (thanks to 1quick69!). So I have a few questions:
1) The pulleys, if I wanted to use underdrive pulleys where would I go? I checked out March's website and they only list for "86-93 5.0" and "94-95 5.0" and that's all.
The balancer pulley on this '97 5.0 is odd to me, it has 1 large bolt in the middle with 3 small holes around it and then 3 large slots. In my experience there should be 4 bolts holding the balancer pulley on a late model 5.0 (3 bolts on an early model 302), am I missing something?
2) I am going to need a flexplate because the early 302 had a 28oz balance and the newer 5.0 has a 50oz, I have discovered that the stock flexplate on my '69 had 157 teeth. I am looking at buying a TCI flexplate (part #TCI-529610) and a TCI 11" Converter (part # TCI-451000). Will these two items work with the '97 5.0 & '69 C4 trans?
3) What starter will I need to use? Stock '69 replacement or will I need to get a '97 5.0 replacement or can I go with a Powermaster (part # PWM-9601) ?
4) The cam, I was planning on going with an either an E303 or TFS Stg 1, will these be okay? The firing order will be that of a 302HO if I use one of these cams right?
5) Last question, the distributor. Can I just use a distributor from a carbureted 85 Mustang w/a steel gear or is it absolutely necessary that I use an aftermarket one suchs as an MSD?
Thank you, I'll probably have more questions later. [ August 06, 2006, 07:32 PM: Message edited by: MustangNate ]

Swap the balancer and accessory brackets to the 86-93 setup. You can run all the same stuff a 5.0 does. The flywheel you picked will work. The starter will be from your 69, as long as that's what came with the tranny. You can also use a aftermarket one for your tranny. The firing order will be determined by the cam...so yes, with a E or TFS 1 it will be a HO firing order. You can run the 85 dist, but you will need the ignition box as well. Get a two wire aftermarket setup to keep the clean look.
