Topic: shifter problem...or is it the tranny..please help

hey all...once in a while when i put it to reverse it will go forward like first gear..i would have to hit my shifter really hard and jerk it a lot of strength to get it back in gear...then today when i was driving.....it like hella messed up on me.....it would let me only go into reverse(which would work properly) and 5th....i would have to move it around really hard to get it back to gear....but whenever i drive its really hard to put it from first to second to third etc......i dont kno what it is...sometimes it grinds.....do you think its the shifter or the tranny....thanks guys!!
oh by the way it is a 1990 lx.....and if u kno wat this problem is and you kno any1 in the san jose area that can fix it let me know please!!!!! thanks

sounds like the tranny is fucked,,,i know haulinassmaro can swap em out, but i dont know who fixes trannies on here
