I think its too rich but im not positive, change the o2 sensors and the egr if you have one, put in a can of GTP and drive it like a rental, leve it running at the shop and you MIGHT make it

More information on the vehicle being smogged would help immensely.

From what I remember, high Nox ppm measured values come from high combustion temperatures.

Symptoms that would cause this would be retarded timing, lean a/f, or your cooling system isn't working properly.

Check your EGR system also. I have seen clogged intakes and dirty EGR cut off the recirc during idle and fail people.

Good luck.

best things you can do

make sure the egr is clean and working properly

change the 02 sensor (last attempt)

drive the piss out of it before you test it, do not turn the car off, you want the cat as hot as possible to burn all that shit, best thing to do is drop by the test station, tell them you will be back in a few minutesand go run the hell out of it for atleast 10 minutes, test immediately after and get the good news [patriot]

If you can get a hold of all the numbers from that smog test:NOX, CO, HC, O2 and CO2. The first three are the important ones. Generally If you have high NOX you are running lean and the combustion temp is very high (1600 degrees give or take). The higher the temp the more Nox. HC and CO should be low.You may have an intake manifold leak somewhere after the Mass-air flow meter the computer cannot see. As for you're cat being defective, if the truck is OBDII the computer will measure it's efficiency with numbers from both the upstream O2 sensors and downstream sensors. If the numbers are similar you will set a code and the check engine light will turn on and probably flash. Check for manifold leaks first (EGR, hoses, PCV, cracks) and anything else connected to the intake system. Start there and see if you find anything. The smog guys should have told you this stuff after the test was failed.
