posting for a friend.
he recently did a brake job on his '99 GT with his dad, pads and resurfaced rotors all around. i haven't seen the car, but he says that the left rear pads is really digging into the rotors scoring in pretty deep he says. thinking it was something minor, he replaced the pad and rotor on the damged side and after a few thousand miles, it's happening again. the rotor has major grooves from the pad digging in.
some shop wanted to charge him $2,500 to fix the problem saying it's a warped rearend. i told him to never ever go back there again. so i'm planning to help him look at the problem, but want some suggestions on what to look for. any tips would be great, thanks.

Either the caliper bracket (with the floating pins) is bad or he needs a new caliper.

i forgot to add, after they finsihed the brakes the first time around, he took it for a spin and noticed burnt smell/smoke from the left rear. he said that when he got back home and inspected the brakes, he found that his dad forgot to tighten one bolt, not sure which bolt though.
should i recommend him to buy a new caliper and bracket along with a new rotor and pads?

I'd recommened that since none of you guys seem to know brakes too well, rather than risk someones life you take the car over to Midas and tell them to redo the rear brakes. It wont be $2500, maybe $200.
