Hey,
Its half-off time!!! at pick-n-pull
and there are 3 old 302s there, 5.0 Mag built a 347 with a 74 block, so what do I need to do to it, besides the standard bore/hone shiz, is it the same as my block?
Thanks!

Early blocks are not setup for a roller cam. You either need to have the block machined to use a spyder style lifter hold down, which means drilling and tapping 2 holes in the lifter valley. Or use retrofit link bar lifters which are pretty pricey.

To use the spider and stock hyd rollers in an early block you need a retrofit CAM as well. smaller base circle. Early blocks are two piece rear main. Also, the rotating assy is 28oz balance. No big deal if you are going stroker, but you can't mix and match early and late rotating parts without checking compatibility. the Link bar hyd rollers ARE expensive(400.00~ish), so not likely an option. You could always stay flat tappet, too....
