Any other off the shelf cams besides the E303 that will pass smog thru the tail pipes?

Lots of cams can pass the sniffer. Some smog guys wont pass a loping car just because they know it has a cam. Do you know the smog guy? If all the smog equipment is working, you should be fine with almost any cam. If you want to play it safest just get a cam with a CARB #

Do u think my Comp EX282HR cam will pass in my 331 set up with AFR185's if I have all the smog hooked up? Also, how about with the long tubes & high flow cats?

The 282 is a pretty big cam. i wouldn't be surprised if it failed the sniffer, but there's only one way to find out

Unless you have alot of compression, you won't pass with a 282. I've personally got all the alphabet cams to pass, even with 1.7's. It's all in the tune and functioning smog equipment.

You won't pass visual with the long tubes. You may have to "know someone" and pay a little extra to pass.

Passed a 224/224 duration(.050), .560/.557 lift with 1.6 rockers, 111 LSA custom ground cam. Had AFR 185's,ported Edelbrock Performer, BBK long tubes, and cat H pipe with Flowmaster catback. Car was chipped and passed super clean. The visual was a no-no, couldn't get past that.

I've passed with that cam, but with a blower, and the blower acts as an air pump.
That is a good cam as the 282 sounds too big for your combo unless you run your car above 5000 rpm all day and have lots of compression or a power adder!

use this formula(I got this from Richard Holdener for those who know who he is),if the average of the sum of the duration numbers is less than or equal to twice the lobe seperation numbers.
example: 224/230@ .50 with 114 lobe sep.(comp. cams Magnum 5.0 blower cam) this cam made 847 hp to the wheels with a 347, afr 185's, and 17 psi boost from a Novi 3000(John Germanson's 90 LX, 5.0 magazine sometime in 2002). I have passed with this cam with flying colors!!!
224+230=454 454/2=227 114(2)=228
228>227=SHOULD pass
or 224/232 @ .50 with 114 lobe(I believe this is a Coast High Performance cam).
224+232=456 456/2=228 114(2)=228
228=228
XE 282 232+240=472 472/2=236 114(2)=228
228<236= will not pass!

I have the Comp XE274HR cam in my 331. I had TrickFlow heads, four stock cats, flowies, stock H-pipe, all smog equip working, and she passed with flying colors. This was also at a Test Only station.
My compression is around 10.34:1. I put the timing back stock and ran 89 octane fuel. I actually had the #6 & 7 wire crossed!!
Yaa, they were freaking out at the way the car sounded and almost did not want to smog it eventhough I have CARB numbers for everything.
One major key to passing smog is to have a cam that provides good vacuum, which is what XE cams do well! [ April 07, 2006, 11:11 PM: Message edited by: TrickRacer50 ]

Well, my 274 cam passes on my stroked car and many other's cars and does not pass according to this formula.
230+236=466 466/2=233 110(2)=220
220<233 = will not pass, but does! 0.325 0.327 110

Dont be mislead! Long tubes wont pass visuals. Hell K&N cone filters dont even pass. I had a car pass that wasnt even at the smog station! So I guess all of them will! cause mine did!

Well is my XE282HR cam a no no then? Remember, visual is no biggie as long as all smog equipment is hooked up.
10.5-1 331 stroker, 80mm C&L, 75mm TB, RPM II (opened up to 75mm), 36lb or 42lb injectors, AFR 185's (61cc), 1.6 RR, & XE282HR cam.
For the exhaust I can run shorty headers with the stock H-pipe or BBK 1 3/4" LT's, & high flow cats.
