do you have fuel pressure? how much?
do you get spark? Is the timing set right or did you recently pull the distributor?

a fuel pressure guage on the shrader valve on the fuel line right behind the alternator - looks a bit like a tire valve stem.

yep a guage hooked up right there will tell you if you have fuel pressure or not.
you want about 36psi with the key on and engine off, also watch to see if it bleeds off really fast, would point to a bad check valve in the fuel pump (bad fuel pump)

a walbro, I got mine from here as they seemed to be the cheapest: http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/
really depends on your plans with the car and what mods, the stock pump is 90lph

a 190lph should be good for a while...
255lph if you go with a power adder...

Do You hear the pump turn on when You turn the key to the accesory position, should humm for about 3 second's. If You don't hear it it is possibly You fuel pump relay, which in most cases is located under the carpet under the driver's seat.
