From what i have heard from other people who have had powerdyne chargers on their cars, if they were to do it over again they wouldnt have gone with a powerdyne... if your buddy has a decent chunk of change saved up, tell him to get something better and not to settle for a powerdyne.

And i believe while running a s/c'er he wont be able to run underdrive pulleys along with his CAI.

Powerdyne is not the best SC you can get but it is quiet and if use it for what it is it is not bad. DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE the boost on a Powerdyne.. you will have MAJOR problems.

I've not heard any good things about Powerdyne superchargers.

If your buddy really wants a blower tell him to save his money and get a Vortech. You should be able to pickup a used S-trim kit for around $1500-$2000.

How many miles on his motor? Make sure it is in good running condition with no problems b/f boling on a blower. If the motor has problems now it will have big problems once it is boosted.

I have a powerdyne supercharger and I like it for what it is. not having to tap my oil pan was a big selling point, I just wanted to say I dont regret getting it.

he doesnt know of any problems of his car right now it runs good he just replaced a bunch of parts on it.i was told that Powerdynes are maintenence free, you dont have to always lubing them up and stuff, just as long as you dont try to push all the boost out of them

Vortechs are also maintenance free. They get their lubrication for the engine. There are other self contained blowers (like Procharger) that require you to change the oil every so often.

The main advantages of Powerdyne are; easier install b/c you don't have to tap the oil pan and they are cheap.

I never liked the idea of a blower that has an internal belt. Just another oportunity for early failure.

Just order the base kit from summit for 18-1900 hun, it is an S-trim but comes with 6 rib instead of 8 rib and the pipe that runs between the blower and the intake is a cheap plastic version that does'nt have provision's for a blow off valve. I did this then eventually upgraded everything including the power pipe [patriot] . This way You get a new blower with a kit You know will be complete, then when Ya want more boost just buy some part's and Ya got it. [burnout]

If it were me I would just use the grand to get new heads (thats what his combo really needs). To be honest the powerdyne is not a totally bad blower it's just that there are so many BETTER blowers out there. You don't want to make the price of the purchase the only determining factor when you want more hp/tq out of the car. You want to know that the blower is going to last (how much will it cost for a repair when that nylon belt goes bad in the blower?)

Put it this way. I've had my vortech on my car for probably like 10 YEARS (has to be some sort of record...perhaps vortech will feature my car) and have not run into a single problem with it (except changing belts..fmu disks). If vortech had some of the issues similar to powerdyne I would have never purchased the vortech (probably gone turbo or 408 off the bat).
