4.30 gears are perfect for the 4V, they are not "hell" on the freeway. This isn't a pushrod motor. A 4.6 DOHC has more resemblance to a Honda engine than a 5.0. My rpm is at 3000 at 80mph with 4.30 gears with the 4r70w. Redline is set at 6600rpm right now.

Don't bother going 4.30's from 4.10's. You will not notice a difference.
And please do not EVER compare a 4.6 to a Honda engine.

In a stock/bolt on 96-98 Cobra going from 4.10's to 4.30's is definately worth it. With 4.10's you have to shift into 4th near the end of the 1/4 mile which kills et and mph. 4.10's are good for around town, but not for the 1/4 mile because of this. A stock 96 Cobra with 3.73 gears will be faster in the 1/4 mile than a stock Cobra with 4.10 gears. I would reccomend going to 4.30's or 4.56's even. As far as the comparison of the 4.6 dohc to a honda engine, honestly the 4.6 is like a big honda engine without the variable valve timing.

Im no drag racer, but I would argue that shifting at the end of the 1/4 hardly kills your et, you are still moving toward the end... its not like being in neutral makes your car stop... but I can see how it would suck for your trap speed

Ok, have you even DRIVEN a 96-98 Cobra? I dunno, but MY 97 Cobra had 4.10's and it was a requirement to shift into 4th a good ways before the end of the 1/4. Big honda engine w/o the VV timing? That's saying every OHC engine is like a Honda. Man, I bet you like it when people ask you if that's your Grandpa's Lincoln
Stay with the 4.10's.

Yes, I have driven my friends 97 Cobra with 4.10 gears and it's a good gear for around town, no question. It is however undergeared for the 1/4 mile, that's why you see the factory stock 4V's that completely wiped out the 5.0's in the last two years running 4.56-4.88 gears. That's why they are handicappping 4v's next year to 3.90 gears, the fastest 5.0 factory stock efforts are at least 3 tenths and 3 mph slower than the fastest 4v cars. 3.90 gears are perfect for a 5.0 but extremelly undergeared for an all out NA 4V setup. Now if you have a forced induction 4V, 3.90's would be fine.

"FACT,", IT IS ABSOLUTELY "NOT" WORTH IT TO SWAP YOUR 410'S FOR 430'S. If you had stock gears and wanted to upgrade all together that's one thing, but it would be a waste of money for the MINOR difference from 410's to 430's.

Exactly, that's why I said maybe go for 4.56. The difference between 4.10 and 4.30 gears is only a couple hundred rpm so it won't be that noticeble on the street. At the the track, I would guess in a 96-98 Cobra going from 4.10 to 4.30 it would drop .1-.2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. Going from 4.10 to 4.56 probably at least 3 tenths. Don't fear the gear with the 4.6 dohc...
